Welcome to the American Renaissance Project! (Updated)
I am not sure you are ready!
Hello there,
Welcome to the American Renaissance Project.
Over the past five years, I’ve gone through what I can only describe as a political and spiritual awakening—one that continues to deepen with every passing day. For years, I wrote my thoughts in private, letting them take shape without the friction of an audience. But an idea can only grow so far in silence.
That changes here.
This Substack is where you get to watch an ideology take form in real time—refined, adapted, and tested against the ever-changing world we live in. I call it Social Democratic Nationalism (SDN): a synthesis of social democracy’s material guarantees, a renewed form of nationalism grounded in belonging and shared fate, humanism’s defense of dignity and exploration, and a touch of spirituality to keep it tethered to something larger than ourselves.
The flagship of this project will be what I call the Renaissance Letters. Their format is evolving, but at their core, they are sets of letters—with each set focusing on a specific aspect of my ideology, approached through the lens of understanding the nation and the world around us. In each letter, I will:
examine how the world interprets these questions (from constitutions to elections to culture),
grapple with how other ideologies approach them,
lay bare my own critiques of those approaches and the shortcomings of the current dynamic, and
finally, offer an alternative through the Social Democratic framework I am building—alongside the story of how I arrived at it.

But this is not just about politics. To build any sound ideology, you have to start from the ground up. That means everything is on the table: pop culture, law, history, philosophy, religion, the cosmos, the Founding Fathers—anything and everything that shapes the way we see ourselves and the world around us. Even the most basic questions, like whether we should be kind to each other, are on the table.
Why? Because the institutions that govern our lives—political, legal, cultural—are failing. I’ve grown up in them, I’ve worked and continue to work inside them, and I see how they grind people down every day. I want to take part in deconstructing those institutions, but I can only do that in good conscience if I am also building a suitable alternative. That is what SDN aspires to be: not just critique, but blueprint. That blueprint requires strong foundations, and “showing your work.”
This project is not polished or finished—it is alive. And if you’ve found your way here, you’re already part of it. I encourage you to subscribe and share, whether you love it or hate it, and feel free to voice your thoughts in any comments. I am not here for praise; I am here to build something and make it stronger, and part of that requires challenging.
Because deep down, despite how bold a claim this sounds, I believe there is an energy here to take this country by storm and lay the groundwork for an American Renaissance.
Let’s see where this road takes us.
Till Next,
—Alexis Mordecai
The first set of Renaissance Letters will be a little different from the rest. Rather than diving straight into policy or philosophy, it begins with the story of how I arrived at this ideology in the first place—the unlikely road that led here, and the even more unlikely person who is sharing it. From there, the foundation will be set for everything else to come.
